The theme for project Luminaire is timber. Timber is a fundamental building material that is obtained from living trees. In another word, timber is the deceased remaining of the living tree, a left over carcass. The timber has taken an abstracted form of an animal’s carcass in this luminaire and it is hidden within the outer ‘skin’. The outer skin is a layer of Chinese calligraphy paper applied onto a triangular timber frame. The notion of timber being seen as a deceased living being is often unnoticed, similar to this luminaire, the ‘carcass’ will only reveal itself when the lamp is turned on.
